| SOLWODI is currently
running the following six programmes in Kenya: |

1.
The Code of Conduct for the protection of children from sexual
exploitation in travel and tourism
Funded by Austrian Development Cooperation, UNICEF Kenya Office,
Save the Children Sweden.
In collaboration
with Respect SOLWODI is sensitizing the Hotels in Mombasa, Malindi,
Kilifi and Ukunda on issues of sexual exploitation of children
in Tourism and the Code of Conduct for Protection of Children
from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.

2. AIDS, Population,
and Health Integrated Assistance Program (APHIA II)
Funded by USAID through Family Health International.
The overall objective
with APHIA II is to help Kenyans lead healthier lives by easing
access to an increased range of quality health services. Solwodi
implements part of the Program that targets sex workers in Mtwapa,
Malindi, Ukunda, Maseras, Mariakani and Watamu. This programme
is an behaviour change programme. The main strategy is peer
education amongs commercial sex workers. Solwodi is one of the
implementing parterns of APHIA II.Sex workers are recruited
and trained in Peer Education. They in turn hold Peer led sessions
with other sex workers who are their peers. Peer educators refer
active commercial sex workers and any other people in the community
for services including: VCT, STI treatment, T.B check up etc.
They also hold outreaches and peer counselling services.
There has been many
success stories, including reduction of sexual partners, consistent
use of condoms, finding alternative means of earning by starting
income generating activities, vocational training, finding employment
or starting own businesses.

3. Rehabilitation
Programme
Funded by Solwodi, Germany and other well wishers.
In this Programme,
activities are conducted with an aim of fulfilling the needs
of the target group so as to enable them to make informed decisions
on alternative means of earning income.
The activities entail;
Psycho-social counselling, formation of support groups, training
the groups in income generating activities, revolving loan fund,
vocational training for young girls, skills training, choir
and drama, football and a number of various activities aiming
at boosting their self esteem.

4. Child labour
Programme
Funded by: ILO/IPEC.
The Programme is
geared towards elimination of Worst forms of child labour -
(WFCL) especially Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children
- CSEC.
This Programme is
being implemented in Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi districts. District
Child Labour Committees and Locational child labour committees
have been formed in the 3 project sites. Children are identified
by the respective committee members in each area. The strategies
being employed are Prevention, withdrawal and rehabilitation.
Monitoring is being done by Solwodi in collaboration with the
committee members. The identified children who are at risk are
taken back to school while those already in CSEC are withdrawn
and supported for skills and vocational training. Families of
the identified children are also assisted to start income generating
activities.

5. The Counter
Human Trafficking Programme
Funded by USG through the American Embassy in Kenya.
This Programme target
survivors of Human Trafficking. They are rehabilitated and offered
similar activities as in the rehabilitation Programme. Re-integration
/ resettlement are also done to those who are willing. Orientation
aid is given for 2 months to enable them settle in the new homes.

6. HIV/AIDS Programme
Funded by well wishers.
The programme supports
sex workers, registered at SOLWODI, who are living with HIV/AIDS.
Support is provided in terms of food, Psycho-social counselling,
home and hospital visits as well as referrals to health facilities.
Resettlement is also done if necessary.
